Jangada Farm
From the coffee fields of Fazenda Jangada to recognition for the farm's own roasting work.

Ivan Santana's history with coffee began early. Already at the age of 11, he worked alongside his mother in the coffee fields at Fazenda Jangada, a traditional farm in Cabo Verde, Minas Gerais.
But his mother wanted more for him than a life in the fields without education. She insisted that he study. That decision marked the beginning of Ivan's long journey through the world of coffee — from farm work, to vocational school, to large coffee companies, and finally back to the land where it all began.
Today, Ivan is not just a coffee producer. He is one of Brazil's most respected coffee roasters. In 2023, Fazenda Jangada won the title Torrefação do Ano Brasil in the Torneio Atilla.
After leaving the fields to study, Ivan attended a technical school in Muzambinho, one of Brazil's important educational centers for coffee. He later worked for large coffee companies, where he learned the professional side of the industry.
When he returned to Cabo Verde, he worked on quality improvement in specialty coffee. It became a new school for him. He discovered how much potential lay in the region, in the soil, in the altitude, and in the careful work behind each lot.
The more he learned, the smaller the coffee world became. Ivan wanted to produce coffee with his own hands, under his own name, and with full control over the quality.
So he leased a part of Fazenda Jangada and began to produce his own coffee.

Fazenda Jangada is located in Cabo Verde, in the volcanic coffee region of Minas Gerais, at an altitude of approximately 1,150 meters above sea level. This area is renowned for producing coffees with sweetness, balance, and aromatic complexity.
Ivan's work extends beyond cultivation. His daily life follows the entire cycle—from soil and plants, through processing and roasting, until the coffee reaches cafes and customers.
This is what makes his coffee different. He understands the bean before it is roasted because he knows its origin, how it was grown, and how it behaved throughout the entire process.
Ivan’s own brand, Café Goulart, holds personal meaning. It is a tribute to his mother—the woman who worked with him in the coffee fields and also pushed him to study.
That detail matters. Specialty coffee isn’t just about score, aroma, or taste. It’s also about the people behind the cup.
At Fazenda Jangada, work is a family affair. Ivan’s family is part of the production, and his son João Eduardo has grown up surrounded by coffee plants, roasting, and taste testing. Coffee is not just a product here. It is heritage, education, and future.

For many coffee producers, the value of their coffee disappears after harvest. The farmer cultivates the coffee, but other parts of the chain take the majority of the profit.
Ivan's work challenges this model.
As both producer and roaster, he retains more knowledge, quality control, and value at the origin. He doesn't just deliver green coffee to the market. He presents a finished expression of the farm, variety, and harvest.
This is precisely why his coffee is suitable for Acorda Spesialkaffe.
At Acorda, we work directly with farmers because we believe that quality and fairness belong together. When the producer also understands roasting, the connection between farm and cup becomes even stronger.
Ivan's coffees from Fazenda Jangada showcase the character of Brazilian specialty coffee at its best: sweetness, balance, clean structure, and elegant aroma.
Through Acorda, Norwegian coffee drinkers can experience coffee linked to Ivan's work, with profiles and flavor notes such as red berries, sugarcane, chocolate, brown sugar, tropical fruit, caramel, citrus, and nuts.
This is coffee with a clear producer identity. Not anonymous beans from a large commercial chain. They are the result of studies, family history, soil, roasting expertise, and direct connections.

Ivan Santana represents exactly what Acorda wants to bring to Norway: Brazilian specialty coffee with traceability, quality, and human value.
His story begins in the coffee fields, goes through education and large coffee companies, and returns to the farm with more knowledge and purpose.
Today, every bag associated with Ivan carries more than just taste. It carries the story of a producer who learned coffee from scratch — and who is now helping to show what Brazilian specialty coffee can be.
